2022/2023 QTAC offer rounds: What happens when?

If you’re applying to QTAC this year, then you might be confused about offer rounds.

Early offer rounds

The QTAC offer cycle starts with small early offer rounds from around August. USQ are one of the universities making conditional early offers every week or two, based on Year 12 students’ school results and Principal recommendations.

Then there is a big early offer round through QTAC on 18 November 2022 – the last day of school for Year 12 students. QUT and Griffith do early offers on this date but only some courses will be available for early offers on this date. Check with the universities you’re interested in to find out more.

Major offer rounds

The major offer rounds are the two dates when most places in universities courses are offered to QTAC applicants. This year, the major offer round dates are:

  • 22 December 2022first major offer round – only about half of the courses available via QTAC will offer on this date
  • 12 January 2023second major offer round – all courses available via QTAC will offer on this date, except Bond’s medicine program

All course places should be offered by the second major offer round. But plenty of people will defer or decline their QTAC offer. This leaves university places that need to be filled up by…

Top up offer rounds!

Top up offer rounds do exactly what they say on the tin – they top up university courses that aren’t quite full.

So if you didn’t get your first preference course in an early or major offer round, you might want to try for a top up offer. How? “Conditionally accept” your current QTAC offer and re-submit your preference list to QTAC.

This year, top up offer rounds will be held from late January onwards. Check out the QTAC Key Dates page to make sure you’re ready.

“Closed” courses

How a “Closed” course will look in your preference list

If you have courses on your preference list that say “Closed” next to them, don’t panic! “Closed” does not mean that the course is full. What it does mean is that the course cannot be added to preference lists anymore. But because the course is already on your preference list, you can be considered for a place in it during top up offer rounds.

Keep track of course vacancies

If you are curious about which university courses are nearly or completely full, check out the QTAC Course Vacancies page. This page is regularly updated during a QTAC cycle and can help you make informed decisions about your preference list for top up offer rounds.

And contact QTAC if you need a hand.

Good luck!
