2020/2021 QTAC offer rounds: What the heck is happening?

For information about 2021/2022 QTAC offer rounds, check out: 2021/2022 QTAC Offer Rounds and What time are 2021/2022 QTAC offers released?

It’s January 2021 and the QTAC offer cycle is in full swing.

Early offer rounds

The QTAC offer cycle started with small early offer rounds from August 2020, and a big early offer round on 20 November 2020. Only select, less competitive courses were available for early offers.

Major offer rounds

Early offers were followed with major offer rounds. These were:

  • 23 December 2020 – first major offer round
  • 14 January 2021 – second major offer round (and the majority of offers were released on this date)

Now that the major offer rounds have happened, most course places have been offered to QTAC applicants. But plenty of people will defer or decline their QTAC offer. This leaves university places that need to be filled up by…

Top up offer rounds!

Top up offer rounds do exactly what they say on the tin – they top up university courses that aren’t quite full.

So if you didn’t get your first preference course in an early or major offer round, you might want to try for a top up offer. How? “Conditionally accept” your current QTAC offer and re-submit your preference list to QTAC.

This year, top up offer rounds will be held on:

  • 22 January 2021
  • 29 January 2021
  • 2 February 2021
  • 4 February 2021
  • 9 February 2021
  • 11 February 2021

Check out the QTAC Key Dates page to make sure you’re ready.

“Closed” courses

How a “Closed” course will look in your preference list

If you have courses on your preference list that say “Closed” next to them, don’t panic! “Closed” does not mean that the course is full. What it does mean is that the course cannot be added to preference lists anymore. But because the course is already on your preference list, you can be considered for a place in it during top up offer rounds.

Keep track of course vacancies

If you are curious about which university courses are nearly or completely full, check out the QTAC Course Vacancies page. This page is regularly updated during a QTAC cycle and can help you make informed decisions about your preference list for top up offer rounds.

And contact QTAC if you need a hand.

Good luck!
